Yin And Yang

Yin and yang is the first principle of Feng Shui. It's the concept explaining that everything has its polar opposite. There is no right without left, there is no inside without an outside, there is no winter without summer.

Although, for example, summer and winter are separate seasons, one could not exist without the other. Both of them depend on each other. This is the basis of the whole universe – everything is separate but interconnected.

Yin and yang symbolises the two primal forces of chi energy. Yin is known as the female principle of nature (the passive and weak principle) whereas yang is the male (active and strong) principle. In the past yin and yang was used to explain the forces and cycles of the whole universe.

Yin – the female principle

Yin represents feminine and negative side of emotions. Here are some of the Yin qualities:

Yang – the male principle

Yang represents masculinity and positive side of emotions. Here are the traits of yang:

The dots in yin and yang

You may have noticed that there is a small black dot in yang and a small white dot in yin. These dots show that there is nothing in this universe that consists entirely of yin or yang.

You cannot find a person who would be completely negative without any positive traits; You cannot see species where there are only female members; People cannot be active all the time – everyone needs some rest; One side of your face represents femininity and the other masculinity; You can never experience a bad situation without gaining at least something slightly positive from it.

Taiji symbol

The yin and yang symbol is called Taiji and it illustrates a constant interaction of feminine and masculine energies. Like day and night, yin can never be separated from yang.

This sign also represents constant change and cycles. The curve separating yin from yang shows that you cannot find anything that is complete or absolute in this world.

Balancing your environment

If your environment lacks the balance of yin and yang, you will suffer from negative emotional or physical effects. It is easy to recognise some imbalances in your home. If your home is dark, don't be surprised if you suffer from depression or negative emotions. If your house is too bright, you may experience headaches.

You should correct such major imbalances as soon as you can. For the room that is too bright, add darker curtains or blinds. For the room that is too dark, add more light. If in your room there are too many items, clean it and get rid of the items that you no longer use.

If your home is dominated by one color, add its opposite to neutralise the effect of the dominating color. Once your home is balanced, your health, financial situation and other areas of your life will improve significantly.

Conclusion

Taiji represents how the whole universe works. Everything has its polar opposite but nothing is separate. Polar opposites are connected with each other, like the night is connected to the day and left is connected to the right.

There is nothing in this universe that is complete or consisting entirely out of one matter: there cannot be happiness without a bit of sadness as there cannot be a lie without a hint of truth.

When you understand this fundamental truth and use this knowledge to balance your environment, you will experience harmony not only in your home but in all areas of your life.
