Feng Shui Flying Star System

Feng Shui Flying Star system is one of the most complex and accurate systems which assesses how time and space affects your building. To accurately analyze the personality of the house, this system uses the date your house was built and the direction which your house is facing.

The flying star system is based on the observations of the universe as a whole and it assesses how the universe influences our lives.

In Chinese, this system is called Xuankong Feixing. This system consists of many calculations, like the river map, luoshu diagram and the magic square. In this system, number 9 is a very important number. This is the highest single-digit number and it symbolises completeness, heaven and perfection.

Number 9 is important not only in Feng Shui, but also in many other traditions and religions. In Feng Shui, if number 9 is together with a lucky number, expect good events. However if it has an unfavourable number in the combination, something negative can happen.

The 24 mountains is another Flying Stars concept you should know about. It describes space in this system. In another system called Eight Wandering Stars you can see that your house can be divided into 8 parts, each part corresponding to a particular direction. However, in this system, each of these 8 parts are divided into 3 more parts, totalling 24.

These 8 directions have a specific trigram each and this trigram is divided into 3 parts and that's how you get the number 24. This number also represents directions, so now you have 24 house directions, instead of 8. This method of assessing your house does not contradict the Wandering Stars method, it just enriches it with more in-depth knowledge about your house.

These 24 directions are called 24 mountains and together with the date your house was build, this system provides a very accurate description of the personality of your house.

A traditional Feng Shui compass (called luopan compass) has these 24 directions, together with the names of each of the 8 directions, which are divided into 3 more parts. For example, north direction is divided into N1, N2 and N3 direction. However, you do not need this specific compass to assess your house this way.

Here is the luopan compass. Look how each of the 8 directions are divided into 3 parts:

If you want to see how a real luopan compass looks, here it is:

Of course, it is much easier to use a digital compass rather than trying to establish the precise direction of the front and the back of your house by using luopan. This compass was mainly used in ancient China, however some people use such compass even to this day.

Time in the Flying Stars system

Chinese consider time to be spiral rather than linear, like westerners do. They think that history repeats itself because time has its own cycles. Chinese believe that the largest unit of time is 180 years. After that, time will repeat itself.

We are currently in the cycle which started in February 4, 1864 and this cycle finishes in February 4, 2044. This 180-year cycle is divided into 9 periods which have 20 years each (9x20=180). Once you know which date your house was built, you will be able to find out the period of your house.

If you don't know when your house was built, you can easily find this out by requesting this information from land registry (at least in UK), the company that built the house or your council. You should find out the date when your house was completed rather than any other construction dates.

Once you know the date of your house, check this table to determine which period it was built in (choose from numbers 1 to 9).
