Feng Shui furniture placement should start from selecting the right furniture for each corner. Firstly you should choose the furniture and decorations that correspond to the particular element of the direction. After that, you can place the furniture in a way which will be described further on.

Here are the colors, elements, symbols and meanings of each direction:

In the southern corner of your home you should place fire element. This could be candles, fireplace, red color, light and other symbols of this element. This corner represents fame. You can place the statues of horses here to bring more fame to you.

In the southwestern corner of your home you should place earth element. This can be clay vases, brown, yellow and beige color, flat, square and rectangle-shaped items. This corner represents marriage and here you can place the figurines of elephants to bring loyalty and strong relationships. The painting of peonies is also a great enhancement for this corner if you want to get married.

In the western corner of your home should be the symbols of metal element or metal itself. The color of this corner should mainly be white. This corner represents children.
In the northwestern corner of your home should be the symbol of metal too. This corner represents travel and helpful people and the colors that are best suited here are white, grey and black. Here you can place foreign items and items representing travel to you.

In the northern corner of your home you should place the water element. The color of water element is black and it symbolises career. Place fountains, fish tanks and other items representing or including water.

In the northeastern corner of your home should be the symbols of earth and this corner represents knowledge. The colors of this corner are black, blue and green. You can place the picture of some wise person to enhance this corner.

The eastern corner of your home should have the wood element. Therefore flowers, trees and wooden furniture are excellent for this direction. This corner of your home represents family and health. Green color is the best color for this corner.
The southeastern corner of your home should also have wood element. It represents wealth and the colors that are most suitable for this corner are blue, purple and red. You can place potted plants, coins, dragon, frog, turtle or phoenix statues to bring wealth into your home.

Now as you know what each corner represents and what colors and symbols are best fitted here, it is time to find out how the furniture should be placed. Feng Shui furniture placement affects your well-being and relationships you have with other people.

The purpose of Feng Shui furniture placement is to let the chi flow freely and neutralise the bad chi. Bad chi is created when you have sharp corners in your home. You should neutralise the effect of sharp corners by placing plants in such places to block the poison chi that such corners create. Crystals also neutralise negative chi emanating from corners so as the mirrors attached to such corners.

Also, keep in mind the balance between yin and yang. If some corner of your house is very dark, it is considered to be yin. Place a Yang object to create harmony in such area. Yang object is, for example, a large red armchair.

If the room is very light, place dark furniture to introduce yin and create harmony.

You should make sure that none of your chairs or sofas have their backs to the doors or entrances. They should not be too close to the tables or other furniture because that would create imbalance.

If the furniture is not placed against a corner in your room, you should by no means place the furniture to shape the letter L. This is considered a very bad arrangement that could cause trouble, because it shapes poison arrow which creates very negative chi.

You should not block the chi entering your home with furniture, therefore make sure that the opening of your door is not obstructed with any kind of furniture.

In general, try getting furniture with rounded corners for smoother chi flow and chairs and sofas with high backs for better protection. The backs of the chairs should be solid and without any gaps or strips. The armrests of chairs and sofas should be substantial to provide rest.

If the stairs of your home are opposite the front entrance, this symbolises money leaving your home. To stop wealth drainage, place something near the end of the stairs, such as a plant.
